In fact the problem that annoys me more about MultimediaViewer is simply that image take a long time to load. By "long time" I mean more time than the average MediaWiki page needs to load. It makes me think it twice before clicking an image, and this is a bad sign.

We're working on this, including bucketing thumbnail sizes and changing the way we load images.
