Description Thorsten 2013-12-10 22:16:16 UTC
This file's thumbnail was rendered in a green cast for me and at least one other user (first version as of Feb. 2010 before it got changed):
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ortler_Alpen_Specialkarte_Meurer-Freytag.jpg

Then the image was improved and the new version looks good now.

I cannot see the green cast of the old version with IE but still with Firefox, see screenshot:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7485987/ortler.png

I think I remember looking at this file months ago when it wasn't green (as the old version still looks like in full size).
Did you change anything in the image renderer causing this green cast (and resulting by this the creation of a new version of that file at [[:de:WP:Kartenwerkstatt]])?

Traditionally this sort of thing has been caused by embedded color profiles which are supported in some browsers and not others

Exiftool on the original image says:

Warning: Invalid or extraneous ICC_Profile chunk(s)
Warning: Bad length ICC_Profile (length 435696)

Probably related.

The actual thumbnail has appearantly a weird colour profile:

WARNING: Embedded color profile: “(unrecognized embedded color profile 'CrystalHS')”Some popular web browsers ignore embedded color profiles, meaning users of those browsers see the wrong colors for this image.

Comment 3 Tisza Gergő 2013-12-11 01:26:27 UTC
The full image has a CrystalHS profile as well:

$ identify -verbose 20131208124150\!Ortler_Alpen_Specialkarte_Meurer-Freytag.jpg | grep -A4 icc
    Profile-icc: 435696 bytes
      Description: CrystalHS
      Manufacturer: CrystalHS
      Model: CrystalHS
Copyright: Copyright (C) Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG - ScanOpen ICC 2.0.3.0

So maybe that profile has some error, and the thumbnail generator actually fixes it?

I'm going to close this invalid. It appears that the file in question had incorrect colour information, so not really a bug with us.
