Or hitting alt-left-arrow; Redrose's comment sums this up better than I could.

Searching for something, then hitting backspace/alt-left-arrow will, instead of bringing the previous page up, throw the page for the search index up at

Yes, I'm currently using Firefox 26.0, I can't speak for Redrose though but I assumed he's tested it since he specified in his comment that it was Firefox. Though considering that, I'm guessing this bug may have to be deferred to the Mozilla community instead, because it's starting to sound like it's more to do with their end...

This issue is no longer reproducible (presumably since Firefox changed), therefore marking as RESOLVED WORKSFORME.
