Description Jackmcbarn 2014-01-06 20:43:02 UTC
Can the account Jackmcbarn on http://en.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org/ be given sysop? (Previously requested at http://deployment.wikimedia.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/Global_requests which was since redirected to here)
Comment 1 Chris McMahon 2014-01-06 20:47:31 UTC
I guess you are the Jackmcbarn that updated MagicWord recently? https://github.com/wikimedia/mediawiki-core/blob/master/includes/MagicWord.php?source=cc

I noticed that beta briefly had some fatal errors today because of this.

Is there a particular reason for you to have sysop on beta?
Comment 2 Jackmcbarn 2014-01-06 20:55:34 UTC
Yes, that's me. (What fatal errors, by the way?) The permission is for building a MediaWiki:Cascadeprotected addition that uses that magic word, to follow up on Mr. Stradivarius' work at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_talk:Cascadeprotected (and for some other similar tasks that would be helpful from time to time).
Comment 3 Jackmcbarn 2014-01-06 21:17:31 UTC
Sorry to bother you again; I didn't realize sysop didn't come with importupload. Can I have importer as well, to load the live version of the pages I'm working on?
Comment 4 Chris McMahon 2014-01-06 21:19:41 UTC
User Jackmcbarn now has "administrator" rights on beta enwiki. (I am assuming you didn't need global-sysop, and this should be the correct thing. Let me know if this doesn't meet your needs)

The error appearing on wiki pages on beta enwiki earlier today is showing up in the exceptions log but not the fatals log. Again, this appeared briefly and then did not return:

Thanks!

You now also have "importer" rights.

Just by the way, a nice resource for discussion of beta labs and related topics is the QA mail list, you might be interested: https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/qa . It's mostly low-noise and high-signal.

Note You need to log in before you can comment on or make changes to this bug.
