#1 - Type in a search
#2 - Tap and hold <x| until you erase everything

Notice that if you erase all characters the input and keyboard goes away rather than remaining

Testing on Release 4.0 iPad Mini

Looks like this got fixed a while ago, probably when we redid the search input style.
