The ro.wikipedia community has decided to create the template editor right similar to en.wikipedia (protection level for templates, template editor can modify protected templates). Additionally, the template editor should also have the "editinterface" rights that allow them to modify pages in the MediaWiki namespace. The initial proposal was opened at https://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Cafenea#Noi_permisiuni_necesare_pentru_modificarea_formatelor - the only votes against were those who suggested in-depth discussion of the proposal. Three questions: #1: Should sysops also have the 'templateeditor' user /right/, or would they need to add themselves to the 'templateeditor' user /group/ in order to edit pages protected on the 'templateeditor' level? #2: Do you need the 'tboverride' user right for the 'templateeditor' user group (the English Wikipedia uses it); #3: Which group should be able to add and remove other users from the 'templateeditor' user group? (sysops on the English Wikipedia) Thanks,
#1: Just like on en.wikipedia, templateeditor permissions should also be automatically granted to all sysops (including 'templateeditor' rights and 'editinterface' rights). #2: Indeed, the 'tboverride' aspect has not been discussed and is not included in the policy, so no, template editors do not need to have this right. Apparently, we don't even have a policy on the use of the TitleBlacklist extension, anyway. #3: sysops here, too.
