It's incredibly confusing spaghetti code that's not documented well. Kill it with fire and start from scratch.

This function doesn't actually exist. I'm assuming this refers to getOffset/getOffsetFromElementNode/getOffsetFromTextNode which have been rewritten in https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/121563/
