Description Sumana Harihareswara 2014-02-20 19:10:38 UTC
I searched for bugs using the search box in the upper right corner - I put

Fatal exception of type MWException

in the search box and hit enter.

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=Fatal%20exception%20of%20type%20MWException&list_id=279024

This gave me:

57964 2013-12-04 Importing an invalid gettext file causes "Fatal exception of type MWException" Translat MediaWiki ext Unprior min
55803 2014-01-02 "Fatal exception of type MWException" when trying to transclude a translatable page Translat MediaWiki ext Unprior maj
48655 2014-01-16 LQT: Deletion of thread failed with MWException: "Post has contaminated reply" in Thread.php::checkReplies LiquidTh MediaWiki ext Normal maj

but NOT the bug I needed to find, https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61689 , "Fatal exception on Mediawiki.org", which includes in its first comment the phrase "Fatal exception of type MWException".

Confirming.

Bugzilla has different searches, and that's rather confusing (also to me).

One is the advanced search at https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/query.cgi?format=advanced

When using https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/query.cgi?format=specific you will get the expected result (among 1751 other results, *cough*) as it also seems to include comment content.

The search box in the upper right corner is the same search as the one centered on the Bugzilla front page (I'm thinking of removing that box as it's duplicated functionality) and it seems to not cover comments.

And to further complicate things, there is also https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/page.cgi?id=quicksearch.html - rather powerful, but really hard to find.

So, if I want to make sure that the search does a fulltext search of the comments, I should use https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/query.cgi?format=specific as linked from the left navbar? Got it.

If we're marking this priority as "low" then it would be nice to try to spread the word about the different searches - maybe another one of your "Hidden Treasures of Bugzilla" blog posts, Andre? :)
