Description Andre Klapper 2014-03-07 15:48:12 UTC
Ahoj Petr,

currently, "WM-Bot" is a Bugzilla component under "Tools":
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/describecomponents.cgi?product=Tools

And there is a "wikibugs IRC bot" component is under "Wikimedia":
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/editcomponents.cgi?product=Wikimedia

Assuming that there are no plans to move it to Tool Labs ( https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51935 though I'd love to know more details about the WONTFIX reasons there), would you be okay with moving the "WM-Bot" component to the "Wikimedia" product in Bugzilla?

In case you're fine with that, the link to Bugzilla in https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wm-bot#Support would need to be updated.

Hi,

I have absolutely no objections here. I just don't really see what is a point / improvement here, since wikimedia is a name of the movement, while "tools" is clearly a category where people would expect tools to be in :-) so if I was a dumb user and open bugzilla in order to report wm-bot bug, I would probably look in tools for it.

However I don't really care, feel free to move it. I will update linked bug with explanations.

You've got a very good and convincing point here that I need to think about. :)

My main point was to get rid of "Tools" as it more and more refers to "Tool Labs" which is confusing (I've seen a few misfiled tickets already). However, I might just end up renaming "Tools" in Bugzilla. Plus I'd like to have "WM-Bot" and "wikibugs IRC bot" under the same product. Needs more thought...
