I mean web navigation and [edit] links, that's a new element in HTML5 and a recommendation. See its specification on https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Element/aside
The <aside> element can/should also be used for pull-quote templates and for infoboxes, among other things.

I think this is beyond the scope of Bugzilla - you could mention these issues on the template talk pages, but MediaWiki developers don't tend to maintain templates.

That'd be nice, except the element is not whitelisted, which is very much a MW Bugzilla issue. See top of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:SMcCandlish/sandbox for test case. (Clarifying bug summary to make this plainer.) All I did is point out that there are more use cases for the element on WP than the original poster mentioned.

Please note that such things like web navigation (MW menu) and [edit] links are not belong to template system.
