The current version of Wikidata doesn't use JSON i18n for the library WikibaseDataModel. AFAIK I've submitted patch sets upstream for this. Please integrate the latest version of the library in Wikidata.
how urgent is this? we no longer run master of everything, especially the dependencies and instead have wikibase depend on more "stable" or known compatible versions of these components. so, what we are deploying in wmf21 doesn't have the latest i18n changes. are these so important to try and backport? or can we wait until our next scheduled deployment after that?
There's no rush. It won't be mandatory for Wikimedia Foundation deployments in the next 3-4 months, I expect. We'll be dropping support for $wgExtensionMessagesFiles in about a year, I expect. Because I didn't want to keep this on my todo list forever, I reported a bunch of bugs for areas I wasn't able to control.
I am not sure when we will tag and update versions in Wikibase, but think within the next weeks. The changes will probably be in the Wikidata build we make for wmf24, or soon after that.
