See screenshot, for how Navpopups and Hovercards currently do it.

(Navpopups excludes the templates, which looks odd. Hovercards includes them, which is crufty.)

Moving to TextExtracts component.
Comment 2 Max Semenik 2014-04-22 16:34:53 UTC
Honestly, I don't understand what's wrong with pronunciation and why it should be excluded.
Comment 3 Dan Garry 2014-04-22 21:06:26 UTC
The purpose of Hovercards is to give an overview of the topic, so you can decide whether or not you want to read the article. Pronunciation information is not necessarily detrimental to that, but space is at a premium on Hovercards and the pronunciation information is coming at the cost of other more useful information that serves the purpose better.

That's only for Hovercards though. The same argument may not apply for other users of TextExtracts.

For Hovercard's purposes we are ignoring text inside of brackets. https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/132663/
