Description Steinsplitter 2014-04-29 22:56:12 UTC
GWT is adding unnecessary(?) tags, pleas remove them in the next version:
<!-- Mediawiki Template -->
<!-- GWToolset Template -->
<!-- Metadata Mapped -->
<!-- Metadata Raw -->
<!-- Categories -->

Pleas chang the defaultcat:
[[Category:GWToolset_Batch_Upload]] to [[Category:GWToolset Batch Upload]]

Unnecessary whitespace should be removed.

If you want I can cleanup the existing files (5,700 atm). :)

The convention on Commons is to avoid mysterious hidden comments on image pages, so this is a good change.

However it does make sense for the source metadata/xml record to be logged as we might refactor or datamine later on if there are template improvements/changes that gradually make the image sets inconsistent. The current set up is okay, though there might be better ways of including the xml set without leaving it totally invisible to the normal user.

The purpose of including those tags is to make the provenance (incl. original metadata) of each uploaded object self-contained. We were not allowed to upload to Commons the full XML-documents for each batch upload, which was our preferred solution, and so during the project this was the agreed solution.

Also, I would ask other developers to get involved in working with the tool. Dan has other duties at Europeana than working with the GLAMwiki tool esp. with the GLAMwiki toolset project having ended. Relying solely on Dan is not sustainable.

FYI: I have cleaned up all uploads with my bot.

I hope this can be fixed as soon as possible.
