Requesting the creation of a new mailing list for use for the Cochrane Collaboration-Wikipedia Initiative announcements. I'm a Wikipedian in Residence at Cochrane Collaboration. https://blog.wikimedia.org/2014/05/05/cochrane-recruits-wikipedian-in-residence/ Name of the mailing list is Cochrane-wiki-announce List administrator's email address sydney.poore@gmail.com Second list administrator's email address jmh649@gmail.com It is to be used solely for announcements. Sydney Poore User:FloNight Wikipedian in Residence at Cochrane Collaboration
Is there a reason this list is supposed to include 'wiki' in its name? As far as I understand, the Wikipedian in Residence at Cochrane Collaboration is supposed to benefit (the English) Wikipedia, so I'd suggest the list to be named 'cochrane-announce', ie. without the 'wiki' part.

No the Cochrane initiative is for all of Wikimedia projects. There conference is in Hyderbad India this year and will include people from that region. They publish in several languages including Spanish. And we are facilitating free accounts for Spanish language WMF folks. I added wiki because we are approaching it as a cochrane-wikipedia initiative for name recognition purposes. Sydney Poore

Does the Wikimedia community know that the free accounts will be limited to Wikimedia Foundation employees only? > I added wiki because we are approaching it as a cochrane-wikipedia > initiative for name recognition purposes. But that's my point: if the initiative is named at Wikipedia, then the part 'wiki' is too generic. Is there anything wrong with 'cochrane-announce'?

No, the accounts are for volunteers in WMF projects not WMF staff. Including a target to invite medical editors from the Spanish language Wikipedia. 'cochrane-announce' is okay, although I prefer something that highlights that it is an initiative of both cochrane and wikimedia movement. Sydney Poore
If you have a better idea, please provide the suggested name. Before I create the list for you, I need the following information: 1. Should list archives be public or private? 2. Should new subscriptions be approved by list moderators/administrators, or should users be automatically subscribed upon confirmation (which they do themselves)? Thank you!
The list archives are public. And people can be added after confirmation. Thanks for your assistance. Sydney
The list has now been created, and I configured it to have public archives and moderation mode so that all e-mails have to be approved by list admins. New list members will be automatically added after confirmation. You can configure the rest of the settings, including list description and a terse identifying phrase at the following web page: https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/admin/cochrane-announce The web page for users of your mailing list is: https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/cochrane-announce The list is also available read-only in Gmane under gmane.wikimedia.cochrane-announce I just sent the admin password to the two given e-mail addresses, and made them list administrators. This request is now closed; enjoy your new mailing list! Tomasz
