The new user page https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/createaccount.cgi contains a plain field for the user to enter their email address. On Android, all auto-correction features are enabled for this type of field, which means that the user has to fight the autocorrect while they type. Changing the type to email < input type="email" > would switch off the auto-correction and even makes it easier to type @ in the address. iOS also supports it. It shouldn't affect other browsers that don't support it, since they should ignore unknown types.
I wonder if https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=962812 fixed this in upstream.
You seem to be right: this has been fixed as of at least January. http://git.mozilla.org/?p=bugzilla/bugzilla.git;a=history;f=template/en/default/account/create.html.tmpl;h=5711a726f3b4dd98fe7129f67a483ee0ad5a1c10;hb=165689a I won't mark it as resolved since I don't know what the right status is.
We would need to backport the upstream fix to https://git.wikimedia.org/summary/wikimedia%2Fbugzilla%2Fmodifications.git , if we wanted.
