A similar issue was fixed for MediaWiki core with bug 55699. Similarly, the ExtensionDistributor extension should remove dot files (such as .gitignore and .gitreview) from the package.

Please consult Mr Mark A. Hershberger as to which dot files shall be removed. Not all dot files should be removed, AFAIK.

The ExtensionDistributor is managed differently than the tarball for MediaWiki core.

Still, maybe this is something we could look at fixing.

We can probably do this easily in the new tarball generator.
