It seems like the tappable area for the edit icon is not large enough. It often takes me multiple tries to successfully activate the edit button.

Yeah, I can confirm it feels a bit tricky sometimes to hit the button. I'm not sure if the touch target is too small or if something's eating some of the events.

This was an issue for me when we had the "tap to hide interface" feature in there. Since we took that out, I've personally found it much easier to tap the edit button successfully.

Given the above, I'm going to close this as fixed. Please do reopen if you think it's still not addressed fully.
