When I enter "test" in the Summarize field, and click [preview], it shows as:

<p data-parsoid='{"dsr":[0,4,0,0]}'>test</p>

If I then save that edit, the same parsoid cruft is shown as being the saved state. However, if I then refresh the page, it appears as it should (italicized "test", without cruft).

This is no longer happening, I think gerrit I804facc15917767 or a subsequent patch fixed it.
