Description wieralee 2014-08-08 07:31:19 UTC
Intention:
I'm trying to edit, as always - but since yesterday it's impossible. I'm working on books with many letters (ok. 4000 letters) and I can't see the scan of the book and the edit box in vertical layout. All another preferences set are not working at all, too.

Steps to Reproduce:
Can't edit, can't have vertical layout.

Actual Results:
nothing happen, preferences are broken down since yesterday on Mozilla Firefox

Expected Results:
It's the next time I can't work at all because sb had changed software without checking it.

Reproducible: Always

Hi wieralee,
unfortunately this report is missing steps to reproduce the problem. If you have time and can still reproduce the problem, please read https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/How_to_report_a_bug and provide clear and exact steps to reproduce the problem. Thanks!

I've read this. I don't know what to add. That's all - my settings in Preferences are not working at all - how can I describe it better?

I can't edit at all, because it is impossible for me to remember the scan - I can't see the edit box and the scan together - only one of them is possible to see.

https://pl.wikisource.org/w/index.php?title=Strona:Nowelle_%28Hal%C3%A9vy%29_69.jpg&action=edit

Every page I'm trying to edit has broken layout!!!!!!
The page of Recent Changes don't show other preferences: my editions are not marked, new editions are not marked, ect. ect.

There are no scrolling arrows, the window can't be divided, I have got all content layouting down, not left-right to compare differences.

I'm making more than 100 edits per day. Now I can't edit at all.

Tell me, what's wrong with my announcement. Don't send me to the help page. I've red it many many times. Sending me there again - without any word about what is wrong - would not resolve the problem.

This is the screenshot: http://zapodaj.net/31df58df1e3e7.png.html
in very very reduced size. In normal size I can see only part of the text or part of the scan, but I can't see both of them at the same time (to compare and find the errors, this is a part of our proofread system). The page doesn't fit to the window at all and there aren't any scrolling arrows.

Thanks for the link, that's already more helpful, as there were previously no steps provided how to reproduce any problem.
With regard to what's "wrong" (I wouldn't say that though):
Without clear steps to follow I have no idea how to potentially get to the same results. Imagine me sitting in a front of a browser. Now guide me what to do to see the same problem that you see, click by click, step by step, without making me guess how to do a certain thing.

So I've clicked the link in comment 2 and I've attached a screenshot how things look for me in Firefox 31.

I do not know how that rendering problem refers to **Preferences** that you have also mentioned, hence clear steps are still welcome.
In case you do refer to the Preferences on Wikisource, https://pl.wikisource.org/wiki/Specjalna:Preferencje loads for me without problems.

Plus I also assume you have enabled "Użyj poziomego układu podczas edycji w przestrzeni nazw Strona" under https://pl.wikisource.org/wiki/Specjalna:Preferencje#mw-prefsection-editing ?

For the records, there have not been any MediaWiki software deployments in the last days (due to Wikimania) so whatever has created this problem, it has likely been changed either on-wiki or on your machine.

...and for future references, https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/enter_bug.cgi?format=guided can be helpful to create a bug report by providing steps to reproduce as a list, expected outcome, and actual outcome. Which makes it easier to talk about the same problems and expectations. :)

Also:
Does the problem still happen if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? (Safe Mode disables extensions and themes, hardware acceleration and some JavaScript stuff in order to exclude some possible reasons for problems. It does not disable plugins which are add-ons.) See http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode

And does this also happen with a new and empty profile? See http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic%20Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile and http://support.mozilla.org/kb/Managing%20profiles

Thanks for an extensive explanation. Especially helpful was the information that any MediaWiki software deployments took place in the last days (due to Wikimania).
I'd restored my system for this one a few weeks ago - and now everything is all right. This bug can be closed, I hope.

Thank you very much, especially for patience :-)
