I did a search on string "on the news" on en.wp and it returned "An error has occurred while searching: The search backend returned an error: " message. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&search=on+the+news&fulltext=Search
Doesn't sound like a Cirrus bug. Are you using it in your beta features? If not, it's an lsearchd bug (of which there's many dupes) and is a WONTFIX.
You mean you couldn't reproduce the bug? I don't know which beta you're referring to, or lsearchd.
Can neither reproduce with https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&search=on+the+news&fulltext=Search?srbackend=CirrusSearch nor with https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&search=on+the+news&fulltext=Search?srbackend=LuceneSearch Can you reproduce this? The "Beta" refered to is the "Beta" in your top bar on en.wp
Both produce the same error. As for the Beta "New search", it's not activated atm. After activating "New search", the result came up as expected. So it's probably not the problem with Cirrus. In id.wp where I edit most, the Search page told me that "This wiki is using a new search engine.", that's why I assume en.wp also using Cirrus search, without knowing that it's still opt-in. (Even after activating "New search", there's no indication in the search page that it's a new search).
bennylin: So do you still experience this problem on en.wp with the new search (CirrusSearch) explicitly enabled via BetaFeatures? Note that en.wp will switch as the last wiki to CirrusSearch, likely on November 19, 2014: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Village_pump_%28technical%29&oldid=633362637#CirrusSearch
Yes I'm still getting the error on the link on comment #1
I mean on my original message. (Beta features "New search" off)
That is a WONTFIX anyway. Question is if you get this problem with the new search. :)
