There's no reason for the minion id to be set to the old instance ID rather than the FQDN.

I don't think there is /no/ reason, but I am not clear on whether it still makes sense at this point in time.  I'll investigate, because it would be considerably more convenient to use the hostnames rather than opaque IDs.
