Description Ryan Cunningham 2014-08-30 22:21:43 UTC
The standard German orthography dictates that the digraph to be used for the Eszett, in case technical restrictions do not allow its use, is "ss". MediaWiki's current code redirects a lone Eszett to "S", not "SS".

I propose that, as a result of this bug report, MediaWiki's code be changed to redirect an Eszett to "SS". (This has nothing to do with the secret police force of the Nazis.)
Comment 1 Bartosz Dziewoński 2014-08-30 22:23:36 UTC
What do you mean by 'redirect' here? I don't understand what you're asking for.
Comment 2 Ryan Cunningham 2014-08-30 22:25:53 UTC
I mean that, when you type in 'ß', you get the article for 'S' instead.
Comment 3 Bartosz Dziewoński 2014-08-30 22:51:49 UTC
MediaWiki doesn't do that, as far as I'm aware. Either a redirect exists on the particular wiki you're viewing, or I don't understand you. Perhaps it's a search-related problem?
Comment 4 Andre Klapper 2014-08-31 12:09:16 UTC
Ryan: Please provide exact steps to reproduce the problem, click by click. Currently I have no idea where you enter something and what happens then.
Comment 5 Ryan Cunningham 2014-08-31 16:49:57 UTC
For example, if you type in <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ß> in the address bar, you're instead directed to Wikipedia's page on the letter S.
Comment 6 Andre Klapper 2014-08-31 16:57:41 UTC
No, not here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%9F ends up on the article about the letter ß.
