On a shared host with Jailshell using MathJax, as per https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Math#Client-side_rendering_with_MathJax - texvc can't be installed. Every equation on a page briefly gives in bold red font, before successfully rendering the equation, the unwanted message: Failed to parse (Missing texvc executable); please see math/README to configure.)

If you have no shell access you need to use 
$wgMathDisableTexFilter = true;
