The first time you click on the sidebar menu it just displays the mobile safari toolbar. You then have to scroll up and click it again.
Prioritization and scheduling of this bug is tracked on Trello card https://trello.com/c/9eneyAVV
Cannot replicate on simulator or on Monte's iPhone 6. James are you able to replicate this on: http://en.m.wikipedia.org http://m.mediawiki.org http://en.m.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org/ ? Otherwise I'll close the bug.
This was demonstrated in-person with my 6+, hence why it was opened. Tested on enwiki prod and Beta Labs.
And you can confirm it's still happening to you now post Thur deployment? What browser are you using and what version of iOS 6?
Also beta/alpha?
James_F: Can you also verify if this was in Mobile Safari. I thought it was, but don't remember specifically.
Jon: I believe this was in iOS 8 not iOS 6. Exact version would be useful.
The bug is in Mobile Safari when you have multiple tabs open. Open a page, scroll down, and scroll back up enough to reveal the hamburger menu but not enough to reveal the tabs. Clicking on the hamburger menu triggers the display of the tabs instead of the opening the sidebar menu.
Re-writing title for clarity.
I looked at this with James, and although the UX is horrible I am sure this will effect other bugs. I'd rather we didn't hack around this and instead let people complain and get Apple to address this nasty issue. Importantly the button is still clickable with a bit more scrolling up so we are not blocking them from obtaining the sum of all human knowledge.
