Description Subfader 2014-10-04 21:44:11 UTC
jQuery 1.8.3 is old. How long to you want it to stay there?

Version 2 is a bit faster since it no more supports old IE versions.

But I guess MW wants to support old IE for the next 50 years so users will never see a reason to use a proper browser.
Comment 1 Subfader 2014-10-04 21:46:14 UTC
And since MW uses old jQuery no extension develeoper can use new functions?

We use jQuery 1.11.1, which is the latest version of the 1.x branch. We're not going to drop IE 8 support anytime soon, but when we do, we'll switch to 2.x Please upgrade your MediaWiki installation if you're seeing an older version.

\mediawiki-1.23.5\resources\lib\jquery\jquery.js reads v1.8.3

Is that the wrong spot?

jQuery was upgraded to 1.11 in MediaWiki 1.24 (or will be, as this version will be officially released in around two months).

Ok thanks. I will replace it in the directory above and hope the plugins still run. Cos some my own jQuery stuff doesn't with 1.8.3.
