I'm not sure what MMV's definition of description is.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:PetRock_Box.jpg

wikitext:
{{Information
|Description=Cover of a Pet Rock box.
| ...
}}

(this is most common format across all of Wikipedia and Commons)

Yet, the viewer renders as "No description available."

I thought maybe it was because it didn't have {{en|}} for multilingual description values, but – while those seem to work in MMV – a different file did work:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Noorderpoort_yellow.svg

wikitext:
{{Information
| Description = Logo Noorderpoort with a yellow accent
| ..
}}

Might be related to the section header, or the Information template on en.wikipedia.org vs. commons.wikimedia.org

MMV just relies on CommonsMetadata. CMD uses the definition from [[commons:COM:MRD]], which the enwiki template doesn't quite follow (it was broken three weeks ago, apparently: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Information&diff=625730286&oldid=611742021 ). Thanks for flagging that; I'll raise it at the template talk page.

Language tags are interpreted but not required by CMD.
