Description Ryan Kaldari 2014-10-09 00:12:44 UTC
See discussion at https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Project_chat#Should_all_occupations_be_separate_items_from_their_skills.3F.

Why this is needed: Most Wikipedias either redirect crafts to occupations or occupations to crafts, but rarely have both. Wikidata has items for both (or should at least). This leads to splintering of interlanguage links. For example 'Lion tamer' might have articles in French and German, while 'Lion taming' might have articles in English and Dutch. If both have separate items in Wikidata, the English and Dutch articles won't link to the French and German articles, and vice-versa. (Lion-tamer and lion-taming need to be separate items in Wikidata so that they can be properly used for different types of claims.)
