I see at least two components that have an offboarded staff member listed as a default CC (bsitu@wikimedia.org on "Extensions->Echo" and swalling@wikimedia.org on "MediaWiki->MediaWiki UI"). 1) I'm not sure how to search for other components, that the addresses might be a default CC on? 2) I've added a section at https://office.wikimedia.org/wiki/VerboseOffboard#Bugzilla for future reference, but it would be helpful to get more details there. 3) It would also be good to clean up any known instances. This will all help to avoid confusion, particularly in any cases where there is only a single CC (because that makes it look as if the issue might get attention, when it very likely won't). Thanks! (See also: useful comments throughout bug 37789, which was about bugs that are Assigned to offboarded staff.)

Correct, that's default CC. > 2) I've added a section at > https://office.wikimedia.org/wiki/VerboseOffboard#Bugzilla for future > reference, but it would be helpful to get more details there. I don't see any sense in removing email addresses from default CC and I'd like to see that removed from the office.wm.o page. I do disable login and mail notification of users that have offboarded. > This will all help to avoid confusion, particularly in any cases where there > is only a single CC (because that makes it look as if the issue might get > attention, when it very likely won't). Where would anybody be able to look up default CCs? Steps are welcome.
Sorry, I should've given clearer examples. A) If I submit a new bug, and I turn on "Advanced fields", I can see the list of "Default CC" recipients. B) When I submit a new bug, I get a list of "Emails also sent to", which typically includes the Default CCs. For these components (and many more), that list includes email addresses which are no longer functional (because the former-staff member has been off-boarded). E.g. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=MediaWiki%20extensions&component=ContentTranslation (asharma) https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=MediaWiki%20extensions&component=Echo (bsitu) https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=MediaWiki%20extensions&component=E3%20Experiments (swalling) This is especially a problem, if ALL the default CCs are non-functional addresses (especially @wikimedia.org addresses) because it gives bug-submitters the impression that someone will notice their bug, when in reality it will potentially go unnoticed. E.g. All 3 of the Default CC addresses for this component, are non-functional: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=MediaWiki%20extensions&component=LastModified However, perhaps those staff members would wish to follow the new bugs as volunteers? E.g. alolita (asharma) is a default CC on https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=MediaWiki%20extensions&component=CLDR but with her non-staff email address. Possibly she would like to have the same setup for the ContentTranslation component. Hence the draft/placeholder/suggestion I left (and have now updated) at the VerboseOffboarding page. Hope that helps. :)

I'd challenge that assumption. In reality people receive a lot of bugmail, cannot have more fine-grained settings due to Bugzilla's mail notification limitations, have not necessarily spent time to set up mail filters, or might use Bugzilla's web interface or RSS feeds instead of mail. So I don't plan to also remove offboarding folks from CC lists currently... > However, perhaps those staff members would wish to follow the new bugs as > volunteers? If people only have/had a work email they can change their email address themselves in Bugzilla. In case two accounts already exist, offboarding folks can create a ticket with a request to merge accounts (and that could be documented for those few weeks that we still have Bugzilla if anybody feels like doing that). For the records, the steps for Bugzilla admins who were asked to merge accounts are described in: https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Bugzilla.wikimedia.org#Merging_two_user_accounts

Ok, I'll just ignore it for now, and request specific component changes if it really bothers me. And re-evaluate once phabricator is the main system. Thanks for hearing me out. :)
