Description Nemo 2014-10-28 11:24:02 UTC
Please remove asharma@wikimedia.org and alolita.sharma@gmail.com from default CCs of any component. In case you can't search by address, the components in question should be those marked as maintained by LangEng at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Developers/Maintainers, plus ContentTranslation.

Done.
Comment 2 Andre Klapper 2014-10-28 12:07:39 UTC
Why was this requested? Did Alolita explicitly state that her private address should be removed from CC? Where?

If it means anything, there were only two components that had her private e-mail address on them. I can re-add them if necessary.

Generally removing people from CC does not make much sense IMHO so I'd like to know what's the idea behind that request. :)

Routine cleanup. Reporters would be confused.

> address [...]

It's not a private address, just two work bugzilla accounts used equivalently.
No publicly logged personal request was deemed needed in past changes made by others to default cc, see e.g. bug 60692.
Comment 6 Andre Klapper 2014-10-28 15:15:30 UTC
So you requested removing people from default CC lists without even asking them? Or am I hopefully misunderstanding here?

How would any reporter be confused by some entries (or not) in some CC list?

"Remove account X from default CC lists as X has left WMF so the address of X does not work anymore" is just a complete waste of time. Also see bug 72147.

An address ending in @gmail.com is clearly a private address because no company controls your access to it. How it's used by its owner is a different question.

That ticket was also pretty unclear as I expressed in a comment there.

Please re-add my personal email id alolita.sharma at gmail.com to every bug for all Language Eng components by default. Also substitute my wikimedia email id for my personal id. Thanks! I did not initiate removal of my personal id and there is no reason for removing me from bugs I am interested in tracking. This is unacceptable community etiquette :-(

I asked by adding CCs, which is more than we usually do as noted by links to past practices. I agree it's useful to ask confirmation, which is why I filed this bug to track the matter properly; thanks Alolita for replying!

I have no idea what "asking by adding CCs" is and what "past practices" you think may exist (I'm not aware of any). I can only repeat that requests to remove potentially inactive accounts from default CC list do not make any sense in my opinion.

In that case one could explicitly write "This first needs confirmation from the account owner before acting on this" in the initial description. Or talking to affected users first before filing a ticket (not) on their behalf...
Comment 10 Alolita Sharma 2014-10-29 14:27:52 UTC
Nemo - can you add my gmail back to default cc? Still waiting....
Comment 11 Andre Klapper 2014-10-29 16:47:54 UTC
I have now added the gmail account to
* MediaWiki extensions > Babel
* MediaWiki extensions > CLDR
* MediaWiki extensions > ContentTranslation
* MediaWiki extensions > Translate
* MediaWiki extensions > TranslationNotifications
* MediaWiki extensions > UniversalLanguageSelector
* MediaWiki extensions > TwnMainPage
* MediaWiki > Internationalization

If you want to be added or removed from anything, just tell. :)
Comment 12 Alolita Sharma 2014-10-29 17:06:44 UTC
Thanks so much Andre! I really appreciate it :) Will ping to be added to other components.
