Jon, what version of Firefox? I have Version 33.0.2 and it looks fine.

33.0.2 here too.. in alpha.
I can only replicate it on beta labs when logged in.
Very strange.

Ahaa.. you also need to have notifications. So this is probably related to bug 72979
