Although there are A+ and A- buttons aside, A^ and Av buttons are confusing - they rather imply changing of font size than inserting sup/sub. Images like http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6a/Button_sup_letter.png and http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/aa/Button_sub_letter.png should be used instead where the "X" should be normal and "2" bolded to emphasize the important part of the image. Such images are common in random editors so people are used to them rather than to those there now.

Note that [[mw:Extension:VisualEditor]]'s toolbar uses icons more along the lines suggested ('x' with super/subscript '2'). It might be nice to update WikiEditor's icons with these.
