Currently there is no option to use Narayam without setting interface language as "Narayam Supported Language". Scenario 1 : I need to edit Chennai Hackathon page[1] and add some Tamil text to it. Narayam is enabled on mediawiki wiki, but my interface language is English on the wiki. As such there seem to be no way to get narayam on the page except to change my interface language. Scenario 2 : I need to translate the WebFonts help page[2], but I dont have narayam on the page (inspite of it being enabled on the wiki) just because my interface language is English. Can there be some logic to check if webfonts and narayam is enabled on the wiki, special:translate page must load them based on the language selected? Doesm't uselang=ta count as a solution?
IMO that can count as a workaround, since that changes the interface language too while all thats wanted is option to activate Narayam on an Narayam enabled wiki even when interface language in English. As per bug 32257 comment 2, Narayam might be used by non native speakers too for typing text on other languages in articles and if and when Narayam gets rolled out to enwp, this might be a required feature.
I think, this would be a nice feature: Load IME Without changing interface language. We can use url param like ime=ta,ta-99,ml for this, it should load Tamil transliteration, Tamil99 and Malayalam in this example. Similarly we should be able to load IMEs by giving comma separated codes.
Or we could just redesign the UI so that normal people are able to use it.
(In reply to comment #3) > I think, this would be a nice feature: Load IME Without changing interface > language. This already exists on Narayam enabled 'language wikis'. I can already use ml or layouts on tamil wiki. Filed bug 33633 for the original issue i intended to report since that might be more description of the bug to be fixed. URL based IME loading might be a nice to have feature.
Please consider giving this input to the Universal Language selector(https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Universal_Language_Selector). URL params are definitely not the way to address usability issues. There is a chance that this usability request get resolved when Universal Language selector available even in English wiki. I am closing this bug since this request is not going to be addressed in the current design.
