Actually, the RC Wikidata on irc.wikimedia.org is #wikidata.wikipedia This "spelling construction" means that wikidata is a language of a wikipedia. Wikidata is a global project of Wikimedia Project as Commons. So the RC channel may be call #wikidata.wikimedia. Thanks
+1 for changing the name of the channel. -1 for calling it #wikidata.wikimedia. Like Wikisource, it should actually be at #wikidata (This may also refer to MediaWiki.org, which currently is at #mediawiki.wikipedia, which should actually be changed to #mediawiki).

Can we do this for all the other projects which are wrongly suffixed with .wikipedia?

Which makes this bug somewhat a dupe of bug 28276 (In reply to comment #4) > These can be fixed on a case-by-case basis by setting $wgRC2UDPPrefix in > InitialiseSettings.php. (In reply to comment #4) > The biggest issue is making sure people are aware beforehand... Will it work if we redirect old ones to new ones?

But I'm not sure what flexibility we have with regards tying to do that with our current IRC setup. And how does it work for people already in the channel?
Duping this to bug 28276 in favour to not spread the discussion on several places but keep it on single one. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 28276 ***
