Is there an easy way to get the total number of subpages in a category such as {{PAGESINCAT:Foo|subpages}}? This would be useful for keeping track of members of maintenance categories that are segregated by month or year such as any one of the 154 at the time of this posting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Wikipedia_maintenance_categories_sorted_by_month
Yes, it's {{PAGESINCATEGORY:categoryname|subpages}}. See http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Magic_words#Statistics for more information.
Unless it is undocumented and I was attempting to use it incorrectly and your line there has a syntax typo, |subpage(s) doesn't work. Only all, pages, subcats, and files are listed.
Oh oh oh. My apologies. I completely misread what you were saying.

The above linked patch adds a new keyword NUMBEROFSUBPAGES, which is a little more generic than just a category version, but should fulfill the functionality you're looking for. Now for code review...
Bumping/elevating this as this patch has been waiting a couple months already and appears to just need to be implemented.
