Makes a change from unexpected removal - see the lede in https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Bad_Lieutenant:_Port_of_Call_New_Orleans&diff=561441720&oldid=559871185
I have seen this before. [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:JohnCD/VEtest5&diff=561489564&oldid=561489465 Here] it is, isolated. Where there is a passage in both bold and italic, so that there are five ' characters each side, VE strips out three of them from the second set, so that following text appears in bold. This is not apparent during the edit, only when the page is saved (or by studying the diff carefully with "Review your changes").

That should be fixed in https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/70581 among others. Part one is fixed (so marking as fixed); part two is bug 50068.

This will allow me to track down bug 50068 a lot faster.
