I was forced to delete [[w:Image:GoogleEarthLogo.JPG]] and [[w:Image:Royal Stables.jpg]] under CSD I2 (corrupt, missing, or empty image page) because their images could not be found by the server, so I think that file system corruption may be to blame. If an administrator tries to undelete these files, they will fail when any of these corrupted images are included in the undeletion action. However, I was able to restore an older version [[w:Image:Royal Stables.jpg]]. Please consider running fsck to prevent more images from getting lost.
Why do you think that filesystem corruption is to blame? Are you sure it's not just the recent accidental loss of a number of images,[1] for instance? I assume a journaled filesystem like ext3 is being used. Undetected corruption is hardly likely. CC'ing Tim so he can say whether these might be related to the recent loss. They aren't on the list he posted. [1] http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/wiki/wikitech/143395
The reason I felt that file system corruption is my main suspect is that thumbnails were successfully generated for the lost images. Therefore, something happened to either the database or the file system. I thought that there would be little reason to change the name or location in the database that points to the image. However, I admit database corruption can also be responsible for the lost image.
Did someone ever look into this?
(In reply to comment #3) > Did someone ever look into this? Based on the link in Comment #1, Tim "caused" it whilst trying to patch a bug and tried to recover the ones he could. personally i would be willing to INVALID this but I will let others choice since i haven't read the full link.
Looks like this problem cannot be fixed because it more of a database mistake that cannot be fixed until all of the lost images are deleted and possibly reuploaded.
