The discussion of creating a specific list for languages had been discussed on the LangCom list. Another discussion occurred for the creation of a thematic organization : Wikimedia Indigenous Languages (which will use the same list). So I request the creation of languages-l mailing list.
Could I be the "admin" of the list. betienne@bellaliant.net
I will have a look at this properly tomorrow, but per the new standardisation guidelines, at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Mailing_lists/Standardization - if this list is created, the list name would drop the -l so languages@ instead of languages-l.
Maybe I'm not patient, I don't know how long it usually takes... but if you need more info, just let me know.
Yes, sorry, I got caught up with some other things - I'll try to have a look at this properly tomorrow afternoon - do you have any alternative admins you can suggest for this mailing list? When I'm making list admins I try to choose at least two that are most well-suited for the role dependent on the contents of a particular list. Who is currently leading Wikimedia Indigenous Languages, and is there a plan to shift some of the discussion that I've seen on the Langcom list that could be public (so discussion about new language features from the Localisation team, for example)? I presume you would like this to be set up as a public list with public archives?
I don't know that there is a "leader" so to say about Wikimedia Indigenous Languages, but '''Amqui''', MF-Warburg, and SPQRobin seem to be leading it.
Indeed, there is no "leader" as of yet, since Wikimedia Indigenous Languages (WIL) doesn't exist yet, but the scope of the list is wider than WIL, i.e. the public discussions about languages will be on this new list instead of langcom-l which isn't public. I'm only the one who push its creation. But if you need an additional admin, I can do it without any problem (how can I provide my e-mail more privately?). I guess an admin from LangCom would also make sense.
I guess you can click on my username, there's my e-mail :P
(In reply to comment #6) > But if you need an additional admin, I can do it without any problem (how can I > provide my e-mail more privately?). I guess an admin from LangCom would also > make sense. If needed, I and/or MF-Warburg probably can be list admin too. I have experience as list admin on langcom-l and wikimediabe-l.
Thanks to all, I've gone ahead and created the list with Amqui, Étienne and MF-Warburg as list admins. If there is a need for more in the future then feel free to add whenever required. I've emailed the list admin password and added a terse phrase, please add to the description for the list: https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/admin/languages/?VARHELP=general/info.
