I batch deleted all the files in [[w:Category:Orphaned non-free use Wikipedia files as of 26 April 2013]] and three of the files returned an error (unspecified by the batch deletion form). [[w:File:Velodyne Acoustic Logo.jpg]] [[w:File:White Light Fever.jpg]] [[w:File:Tiegs for Two - Family Guy promo.png]] As you can see the files themselves seem to have completely disappeared. [[w:Special:Undelete/File:Velodyne Acoustic Logo.jpg]] shows nothing and trying to view the file itself (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/9b/Velodyne_Acoustic_Logo.jpg) returns: 404 Not Found The resource could not be found. MZMcBride: I don't see a good reason for highest priority, as long as there is no statement that the problem is very reproducible. Did you talk to Aaron if he plans to look at this?

I don't see how they "completely disappeared". If you just mean that undelete didn't work, that's not a huge problem as long as retrying works later.

(In reply to comment #0) > [[w:File:Velodyne Acoustic Logo.jpg]] > [[w:File:White Light Fever.jpg]] > [[w:File:Tiegs for Two - Family Guy promo.png]] I just looked and Aaron is right. The files didn't completely disappear. They're all there (and it looks like another admin came along and deleted the file description pages). The bug here seems to be that it's possible for a split to happen where the file gets marked as deleted (and becomes inaccessible), but the file description page lingers. I imagine this is a duplicate bug. If this bug had involved actual data loss (i.e., the images actually completely disappeared), that would be a major bug. (It's rare, but sometimes files can actually be completely deleted.) But as it appears with this bug, this seems like normal priority. And I've updated the bug summary accordingly.

At the time of filing, Special:Undelete was showing nothing in "Page history" or "File history" while the file itself was inaccessible from the description page, hence "completely disappeared". I was hoping nobody would touch the files before the assignee got to look at the bug, because the later deletion seems to have fixed the problem. If/when this happens again, should I report it here, or just re-delete the file?
Okay, it happened again. Here's an example, hopefully it won't be deleted in the meantime: [[File:Ittouseicover.jpg]]
