* We should have a maximum topic title length. * Depending on how long it is, we may want to truncate long topic titles in ** Echo notifications ** page heading[1] and <title> See e.g. http://ee-flow.wmflabs.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Spage&workflow=0509f5e85dd734dffb6efa163e68c4ac&action=view#flow-post-0509f715f81b34dffb6efa163e68c4ac , that has is 1500+ characters.
The WMF core features team tracks this bug on Mingle card https://mingle.corp.wikimedia.org/projects/flow/cards/518, but people from the community are welcome to contribute here and in Gerrit.
As I commented in the Flow thread that you've linked: The longest thread on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Village_pump_%28technical%29 currently, is 91 characters. At max width, the title above has 129 characters (135 bytes, probably due to the non-latin characters?) at 3 lines long: "troublesome characters? Déjà vu 北京 <tag & "OK" 'end' How long can this topic title go? Narwhal chambray leggings, occupy bicycle" So I'd suggest 150 characters as potentially a reasonable maximum (whatever that translates to in bytes for other languages?).
We're going with 260 bytes, for two reasons: #It takes into account multibyte characters; #The maximum length in a varbinary field with our setup is 260.
