"deployment-prep" no longer makes sense and it's not how anyone refers to the cluster of vms known as "Beta Cluster". "Easiest" way of doing this is probably re-creating the cluster in Labs then switching the DNS over. That's a pain.
It might be possible to create a new project and then yoink the instances out of deployment-prep and into the new one. That will break a fair number of things (metadata stuff like public IPs) but might be less painful than starting from scratch. For reference: https://ask.openstack.org/en/question/28026/how-to-move-a-instance-between-projects/
Hashar: Have any opinions regarding this? I spoke with Greg and offered to make good use of some of my spare time by basically doing the bulk of this (creating the new project in full, making sure it works in basicness and providing any relevant patches to make this work so things can be switched after those who are working on specific areas of the cluster give OKs for stuff).
(If you also want to rename the corresponding Bugzilla component, please file a ticket under "Wikimedia > Bugzilla")
Recreating the project from scratch definitely takes a few days. Migrating the instances to a new labs project would most probably cause all of them to have new IP addresses which requires a bunch of changes in puppet and mediawiki-config.git. Would we also rename the instances to beta-xxx ? I am wondering whether the name can be updated in the wikitech / LDAP and whatever OpenStack backend. That would be the nicest solution but I guess it is not trivial either. So I don't think it is worth the effort and I would just rename the Bugzilla component.
